Consultation on Loughros (Owenea/Owentocker) estuary commercial salmon draft net fishing season 2025
This public consultation opens on Saturday, 01/02/2025 at 8:00am and closes on Thursday, 20/02/2025 at 5:00pm
Inland Fisheries Ireland is seeking submissions in relation to a proposal to restrict the commercial salmon draft net season on the Loughros estuary, Co. Donegal in 2025 to fishing between July 1st and July 21st.
The proposed changes are to reflect the limited overall salmon quota available for 2025 and the number of commercial draft nets available and to ensure continued stock rebuilding in line with the precautionary principle. An overall surplus of 540 salmon has been advised for 2025 to be divided between the commercial draft net and recreational angling sectors.
The commercial draft net season for the fishery normally opens on May 12th and closes on July 31st.
