PRESS RELEASE, 6th March 2016

Inland Fisheries Ireland launches sponsorship programme

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) has today (16.03.16) launched a sponsorship programme under the National Strategy for Angling Development (NSAD) which aims to provide support to angling groups, associations, clubs or other appropriate bodies to assist with the development and implementation of fisheries-related events.

The programme seeks to increase awareness of IFI, its work, recreational angling in Ireland and the Irish inland fisheries resource. Applications for the following types of events will be considered for support:

  • Large international competitions held in Ireland which showcase Ireland’s angling resource and contribute to local economies, supporting jobs and businesses.  Maximum support of €3000 per event applies.
  • Novice angler events which increase participation in angling. Maximum support of €250 per event applies.
  • Information dissemination to promote conservation and protection of the inland fisheries and sea angling resource e.g. seminars/coaching training/workshops etc.  Maximum support of €500 per event applies.

Dr Ciaran Byrne, CEO of Inland Fisheries Ireland, commented: “One of the aims of this scheme is to introduce new people to angling which is a wonderful pastime that can be enjoyed by all. In particular, we would like to see more young people, women and people with disabilities take up angling as a hobby. We hope that this programme will help us achieve this.

“We would encourage intending applicants to review the application criteria well in advance so they can produce the best possible proposal.”

All applicants must complete and submit an application for sponsorship to the IFI Business Development Section before the deadline on 15th April 2016. The application from is available for download from the IFI website at: http://www.fisheriesireland.ie/sponsorship-1/653-sponsorship-programme-application-2016
