Camlin River Fish Kill

Inland Fisheries Ireland staff are continuing their investigations into a fish kill on the Camlin River downstream of Longford Town which resulted in over 2,000 fish mortalities over a 6km stretch from above Cartron Bridge downstream as far as the confluence with the Shannon River. IFI staff initiated their investigations on Wednesday morning, 4th September 2013, in response to a complaint of dead fish at Cartron Bridge received from a member of the public.

Brown Trout, Roach, Pike, Eel and White-clawed Crayfish were among the mortalities. Live fish have since been recorded within the affected area. Water samples have been taken for analysis and Inland Fisheries Ireland are continuing with their investigation to try to identify the source of the pollution that caused the fish kill. This may not be possible given the fact that the fish kill occurred on the weekend of the 1st September.
