Stakeholder Engagement

Stakeholder Engagement is an important part of what Inland Fisheries Ireland does. Inland Fisheries Ireland works with a wide variety of groups and individuals at national, regional and community level as well as anglers, commercial fishermen, fisheries owners, NGO's and sporting bodies.

National Inland Fisheries Forum

Established under the 2010 Inland Fisheries Act, the National Inland Fisheries Forum (or NIFF) is a very important platform that facilitates stakeholder input into fisheries policy formulation.

To recognise the special role of angling stakeholders, each of the main angling organisations is requested to nominate members to represent their interests for the duration of each NIFF cycle. These nominees are then appointed to the Forum by the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications. The process of selecting the remaining members of the new Forum is managed by the Public Appointment Service, with the support of Inland Fisheries Ireland. The forum consists of not more than 60 members.

The first meeting in the current 3-year cycle of NIFF took place in May 2022 and membership includes:
