Dublin Angling Initiative
How we invite youth clubs, community groups and schools in the Greater Dublin Area to take part in a dedicated programme of fishing.
Background
The Dublin Angling Initiative was set up in 1995 and is sponsored by Inland Fisheries Ireland. Its principle aims are to promote, develop and improve angling for young people from the Greater Dublin Area.
During the summer months, the main work of the initiative is to take groups of young people throughout Dublin from national and secondary schools, and from summer projects and youth services, on fishing courses.
During term time, the Dublin Angling Initiative offers angling programmes, workshops and school tours. Students have the opportunity to learn about fishing, and the biodiversity of their local rivers and lakes.
A nationwide success
Thanks to this initiative, thousands of young people have already been introduced to the joys of sea, coarse and game angling at venues throughout Dublin and surrounding areas. It has also been the catalyst for setting up angling clubs open to young people, offering them a hobby they can enjoy for life.
Events
The Dublin Angling Initiative can tailor angling trips to each group’s specific requirements or needs. It caters for complete novices to more advanced anglers in all types of fishing: coarse, game and sea. Fish welfare is a priority for the project which teaches all young people the techniques for catch and release.
Fishing workshops and tours can also be included, providing insighting into fish, their habitat, understanding conservation measures and education regarding local fishing areas.
Contact
The Dublin Angling Initiative welcomes enquiries from all groups and interested parties in its programmes and services.
